Forage Peas
Pisum sativum
Nitrogen fixation and protein rich forage
About Forage Peas
Field peas are an excellent crop for nitogen fixation. Forage or field peas work best in clay soils and alluvial bottoms. Keep seeding rates lower with smaller seeds and on the upper end with larger seeds. Forage peas provide a high protein forage and are a good seeding companion with cereals when grown for forage.
It is recommended to plant 1-2 inches deep and early in the spring. Blooms are a good early source of nectar for honeybees.
