Whorled Milkweed
Asclepias verticillata
Irresistible to insects!
About Whorled Milkweed
Whorled Milkweed is a shorter milkweed species (1.5-2.5 feet tall) that blooms later than other milkweed species. This feature allows for insects that like milkweed nectar to forage after the others have stopped blooming. As it's name states, the plant has thin "whorled" leaves with generally white flowers atop the plant. It is a rhizomatous plant that likes well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Works well when planted in a mixture with shorter to mid-height prairie grasses.
